When Seeing Is Believing, But Not Everyone Wants to Be Seen

Thank you our volunteer, Liz, for posting on her Facebook page when she received the items to hand out in Washington DC.

Our policy remains that we don’t take photos of people who are homeless without permission and without making it clear that receiving our items has no requirement to do anything. Many people are not “out” as homeless, be it on online, at work or with their families. So, providing comfort and respect are key. Only if someone indicates that they do want to share their story or in someway help promote what we do, are photos taken.

What does that mean for Blankets to the Streets, though? It means that in a day and age where seeing is believing, we have to find other ways to inspire donor confidence. If you receive items to hand out or use, something as simple as posting about it on your page and sharing your photos with us can help us show people what we are doing.

It makes a difference. We all have a piece of the puzzle. It’s just a matter of using them collectively. 😊

Want to help us get more items to those in need? Please consider making a tax deductible donation!
